Harry Russell Carpenter
September 28, 1922 - August 14, 2006
Harry Russell Carpenter, 83, died on August 14, 2006 at St. Joseph's/Candler Hospital after a long illness.
Harry was born on September 28, 1922 in Way's Station now known as Richmond Hill, Georgia. He was the son of the late Erwin W. Carpenter and Winifred Sutton Carpenter and Addie P. Carpenter. After graduating from Richmond Hill High School, Harry taught sheet metal at Richmond Hill Trade School. He worked for the civil service in Pearl Harbor after the attack on December 7, 1941 as a sheet metal worker. He then joined the 31st Division of the U. S. Army and served in the Philippines. He worked for Robert Roebling as a maintenance technician for 16 years and then for the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography at Maintenance Supervisor after Mr. Roebling donated the land to the State of Georgia. He retired in April, 1993. Harry was a member of the Ambucs for 47 years and American Legion Post 135.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jackie B. Carpenter; daughter, Beth C. Foskey of Savannah, Ga.; son, Ronald E. Carpenter of Paducah, Ky.; two grandchildren, Sara Beth Foskey and Jacob R. Foskey; their father Tom Foskey; sisters Evelyn C. Fox of Woodstock, GA. and Bertie C. Rahn of Richmond Hill, Ga.; brother Robert Bobby K. Carpenter of Richmond Hill, Ga. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
